How to Smoke a PipeThe Right Way

Pipe smoking is a relaxing, leisurely activity that should not be rushed. If you are a new smoker, you’ll be eager to get into smoking tobacco using a pipe. Well, let’s help you get right into it. After carefully selecting your pipe and tobacco blend – try some American club pipe tobacco, grab a seat, and your set of pipe smoking accessories, and you’re ready to begin.

· Fill the Pipe Bowl with Tobacco These steps sound quite simple – just fill the bowl with tobacco, right? It is the most critical step and the hardest to master in pipe smoking. The way you fill your bowl affects your smoking experience. The container is best filled up to half with tobacco loosely then pressed down slightly with a tamper. Then add more tobacco until it’s full before pressing down again. After that, your bowl will be about 75% full. Now add more tobacco and press down. Always leave little space between the tobacco and the top of the bowl.

· Test Draw This test is how to know if you filled your pipe bowl right. Put the pipe to your mouth and try to take a drag – without lighting it, of course. If air flows freely through the tobacco, it’s appropriately filled. If the opposite is the case, then it’s packed too tight, so you need to remove and try loading again.

· Lighting Your Pipe For lighting your pipe, use a pipe lighter. Take gentle draws on your pipe and move the light in a circular motion on the surface until the tobacco is evenly lit. Allow the first light burn out, then light it again. It is not unusual for pipes to go out during a smoke. Just relight, and you’re good to go.

Most avid pipe smokers avoid using matches. The sulfur from matches can alter the taste of your tobacco. However, if you have no choice but to use matches, then let it burn for a few seconds after striking it. This will make the sulfur burn off. Pipe lighters, on the other hand, are made especially for tobacco pipes and don’t alter the taste.

· Don’t Rush It The best way to smoke a pipe is slow and steady. Do not puff too fast as you may burn off your flavor and even get “tongue bite.” Just relax and enjoy your preferred tobacco blend. If you like variety, then swisher sweets and some good stuff juices are great options for you.

That’s all there is to smoke a pipe.
